QLI x Manulife — Play for good event

The Eldpathy senior baseball event was an absolute riot.

As the youngest child in my family, I grew up with a grandmother who was older than everyone else’s, so my early impressions of elders were, well, the usual: fragile, frail, wrinkles. When I found out Eldpathy actually has a senior baseball team, I was genuinely dumbfounded. And the time I had during the event was utterly indescribable. I’ve played softball before, so baseball came relatively easier, but honestly, that wasn’t the point. The point was watching these senior players out there, throwing with precision and thriving in their element. What a magnificent sight. I got to chat with them, hear their stories, and learn how they rediscovered purpose after retirement. It was truly heart-swelling.

One thing I walked away with was, not approaching and treating them as people in need, they’re, afterall just us, but older. Approach them as worthy opponents on the field. Despite being triple my age, they were running faster and throwing sharper than I ever could. If there’s another “play for good” event where I can learn something new, have a blast, and contribute to a meaningful cause all at once? COUNT ME IN PLS!
